Environmental impact assessments

METEOTEST treats the aspects air and climate for environmental impact assessments. With several dispersion models (see below), we calculate the NO2 air pollution for environmental impact assessments for construction projects (roads, tunnels, parking garages, industrial buildings etc.).

Modeling of odour immissions

METEOTEST assesses the dispersion of odours for newly built or extended animal farming facilities or compost works. The dispersion conditions in the closer and farther surroundings of the facilities are analyzed (for an example, see the picture on the right). Critical situations for odour annoyances are determined. If required, we measure the meteorological conditions with our own measurement station and calculate the odour immissions with the model AUSTAL2000G.

Dispersion modeling with MISKAM and AUSTAL

METEOTEST  employs the model MISKAM for modeling rural road situations or tunnel portals.

MISKAM (microscale climate and dispersion model) is a three-dimensional non hydrostatic flow and dispersion model. This model is suitable for small-scale prognosis of wind fields as well as pollutant distributions and concentrations in the surroundings of buildings, roads or whole town quarters. Buildings are taken into account as block structures, and the wind flow and turbulences around them are modeled realistically.

The figure shows a model grid in a modeling area with a spatial resolution of 5 m. Buildings (dark blue, purple) as well as trafic emissions (light blue, green) are shown. The exhaust funnel of a parking garage is located at the crossing of the black and grey line.

Depending on the task, we also employ the model AUSTAL, which was developed according to the standards of TA Luft (Technische Anleitung zur Reinhaltung der Luft, VDI 3945 Blatt 3). In projects dealing with odour immissions, we utilize AUSTAL2000G, which is based on the German odour immission laws (GIRL). The use of this model is recommended by the FOEN.
